Focused imaging during urgent care

Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS)

Focused bedside ultrasound can help your Clineva clinician answer a specific clinical question as part of your urgent care evaluation.

POCUS is available at all six Clineva clinics. The treating clinician determines whether it is appropriate for your visit.

A focused part of your evaluation

What point-of-care ultrasound means

POCUS is ultrasound performed and interpreted by a clinician at the bedside to help address a specific clinical question. The images are considered together with your symptoms, medical history, and physical examination.

POCUS complements the physical examination. It does not necessarily replace comprehensive imaging or follow-up imaging when those services are needed.

This explanation follows the general point-of-care ultrasound framework described by the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.

What to expect

How POCUS fits into a visit

Your care begins with a clinical evaluation. Ultrasound may be one focused part of that process when appropriate.

  1. Clinical assessment

Your clinician reviews your symptoms and history and performs a physical examination.

  2. Focused bedside exam

When appropriate, the clinician performs a focused ultrasound exam related to the clinical question.

  3. Clinician interpretation

The clinician interprets the focused images in the context of the rest of your evaluation.

  4. Next-step guidance

Your clinician explains recommended next steps based on your overall clinical needs.
